Hair Rant

Good Morning!

As you know I tried something new! I braided my hair for the first time! The results are pretty good...shockingly. I still need some practice but I'm proud of my little box braids. Crazy thing is I'm ready to take them out I'm craving for my curly hair. I really want Big Teyana Taylor Hair :D. I will be posting pictures of my braids and a tutorial hopefully it will be easy to understand. I may even try a video :) we shall see.
Stay tuned will post in the next two days PROMISE!

Vitamin Shoppe has seriously become my go to hair store. I finally have all of my ingredients for the Kimmay Tube leave in conditioner. For the recipe you need Kinky Curly Knot Today, Jojoba Oil, Aloe Vera Juice, and Castor Oil. I have not been able to find a large bottle of jojoba oil yet. I refuse to buy that tiny bottle so I will be substituting Olive Oil for Jojoba Oil.

Our 700 View Challenge is coming to end soon Thursday is the last day. We are ALMOST THERE!!! VIEW VIEW VIEW!!!!!

Of course when my hair is in braids I have an OVERFLOW of hair products at my fingertips but can do nothing with them. As you know I will not be doing reviews, we are focusing on Natural Ingredients. I will continue to try new products and post pictures of how my hair reacted to the product.

Aloe Vera Juice & Gel - What can it do for you?

SOURCE ARTICLE:  E How Health

Aloe vera is a plant that goes by many names: medicinal aloe, true aloe, Chinese aloe, Indian aloe, Barbados aloe, burn aloe. They all refer to the same plant, though--the spiky-leaved, green, succulent plant with serrated edges and incredible moisturizing power. The soothing properties in aloe vera juice or gel make it a natural choice for dry, troubled hair.
  1. How to Extract

    • To remove the juice or gel from an aloe vera plant, cut off a mature leaf with a sharp knife (older leaves have the most nutritional value). Remove the spiked edges and slice the leaf open. Use a spoon to scoop out all of the gel. For the juice, break the leaf and squeeze it into a cup. If you don't have your own aloe plant, you can purchase the leaves, gel and juice at health food stores.

    Conditioner

    • Instead of your regular conditioner, whip up this moisturizing, aloe-based gel. Use 1/4 cup aloe gel, and combine with the juice of 1/2 lemon. Mix in a few drops of your favorite essential oil(s) for fragrance and extra moisture. Apply after shampooing, leaving it on for three to five minutes.

    Overnight Treatment

    • For superb hydration, leave aloe vera juice in your hair overnight. You can mix it with cold-pressed oils such as olive or avocado for extra conditioning. Wet your hair with the mixture, put your hair in a shower cap, and drift off to sleep. In the morning, rinse well (if you used pure juice) or shampoo and condition (if you added oils).

    Hair Loss

    • The benefits of aloe vera are still being researched, but it contains two substances called "macrophages" and "superoxide dismutases"--both of which have been considered as possible hair growth stimulators. The anti-inflammatory properties of aloe are wonderful for inflamed follicles, and the plant is so soothing that there's no harm trying it out. Apply aloe vera juice or gel directly to the scalp and massage it in. Leave it on for a few hours or overnight, and keep an eye out for new hair growth.

    Dandruff

    • Aloe vera works to prevent or cure dandruff. Apply the juice or gel directly to your scalp, and rub it in well. You can add a few drops of tea tree oil for extra potency. Leave it on for 20-plus minutes before showering. Repeat this several times a week for two weeks, or until the problem goes away.

    Irritated Scalp

    • The gentle, soothing feeling of fresh aloe vera juice is wonderful for itchy, irritated or sunburned scalps. Break a leaf and squeeze it directly onto hair. Rub it gently into the scalp and leave in. Reapply whenever the irritation resurfaces.

Inspiring Fruit & Veggie Table

I discovered this on Sweet Designs - A Blog by Amy Atlas. This is such a cute idea it makes me think of SPRING! Looks so appetizing and refreshing. This really inspires me to throw a Spring luncheon.

Multiple Textures

Can you see my gradual texture change?

It is very common for Naturals to have multiple textures. Personally I have 3 textures (maybe more) my front is a loose curl and as you make your way to the back it gets tighter and tighter. You can see in the picture above the different texture. To me it looks like the back portion of my hair is dry. So it has me thinking, do our different textures require different care, products and maintenance? Is this an obstacle for you?

Mayonisse - What can it do for you?

Source Article: Amazing Fact Blog

In the 1950s, hair treatments made from mayonnaise were popular. The benefits of mayonnaise as a hair treatment is that it conditions the hair deeply. In the 1970s, the ingredient returned, in hair rinses and herbal shampoos, and was used for both men and women.
During the 1950s, it was common to use mayonnaise from a commercial product, although mayonnaise can be made from home using olive oil and egg yolks. Although there are different ways to make mayonnaise, using these two ingredients is the backbone of the hair product.

The benefits of mayonnaise as a hair treatment is that it helps condition the hair strands and protects it from the heat of the sun, the wind and all of the accumulated chemicals and alcohol from styling products and hair-sprays. These tend to dry out the hair and mayonnaise helps repair that damage.

In order to achieve the benefits of mayonnaise as a hair treatment, you first need to learn how to make it. In a large mixing bowl, mix the yoke of an egg and pour in ½ a cup of extra virgin olive oil. Mix it in the bowl, using a hand-blender for quickness, until mayonnaise is formed - which is noticeable by light, foamy peaks.

After cleaning and shampooing your hair, massage the mayonnaise through your hair and cover it with a plastic bag. The full benefits of using mayonnaise as a hair treatment are found after leaving it on your hair for around 20 minutes before rinsing it off.

If you prefer not to make your own mayonnaise, use a ¼ cup of mayonnaise from a store. Both provide the same benefits of using mayonnaise as a hair treatment.

The benefits of mayonnaise as a hair treatment comes from the protein in the egg, which is normally found in commercial conditioners. The protein clings to the hair strand and fills any gaps or breaks, making it look fuller and shinier at the same time.

Some hair conditioners can irritate the skin and eyes due to the use of chemical compounds. These chemicals are called quarternary such as cetrimonium bromide, benzalkonium chloride and quarternium 18. Not only does using mayonnaise save you money, but the benefits of mayonnaise as a hair treatment are very high and there are no chemicals being used.

If however, you are allergic to olive oil or eggs, do not use mayonnaise on your hair. Instead, you could try jojoba oil with lavender. Essential oils are extracted from plants, flowers and herbs, and they can be bought from online stores and health stores.

Honey - What can it do for you?

SOURCE Article : Ehow

Hair loss and hair conditions are treatable without the use of chemicals. By combining natural ingredients, you can maintain beauty and health of your hair and scalp. Honey has all natural restorative powers and can be used often.

As a natural healthy means of hair restoration, honey can be used for thinning or falling-out hair, baldness and for adding shine to dull hair.

    Benefits

  1. To prevent hair loss or baldness mix 1 tsp. of honey with 1 tsp. of olive oil and 2 tsp. of water to make a paste. Massage this mixture onto the areas needing it the most (for baldness it would go on those thinned or hairless spots). This is best done before bedtime and the mixture will be left on for the night. Wash your hair as usual in the morning and continue to treat your hair with this mixture regularly.
Another honey mixture for these same issues would be a paste consisting of heated olive oil, 1 tbsp. of honey and 1 tsp. of cinnamon. Apply this to your scalp and leave it on for 5 to 15 minutes before washing your hair.
  2. Effects

  3. Using honey as a hair conditioner will increase the health of your hair follicles and your scalp at the same time. If your hair is on the oily side, decrease the olive oil to 1/4 cup when making the following mixture. Mix 1 cup of honey and 1/2 cup of olive oil. Massage the mixture onto the scalp and let it rest for a half hour before washing your hair as usual.
  4. Benefits

  5. If your hair lacks shine or luster, a mixture of 2 tbps. of honey and 2 cups of warm water can help return the natural shine and will add health to your hair. After combining the solution, shake it thoroughly in a spray bottle with a wide nozzle and spray the mixture onto your hair. Brush it into your hair and let it dry or you can blow dry it.

End to the Reviews

Reviews can be helpful for some and misleading for others. So I have decided that Fly Natural that's Naturally Fly will no longer perform "Reviews". I think reviews are more misleading then helpful because each individual has varying textures with different stories. In no way to I wish to mislead any one my results are my results, I can not speak for anyone's hair but my own. Every now and then I may show the results (with pictures) of  a particular product I have had success with. I do want to encourage you to use the natural products that we see all the time. Hence we have the section: Natural Ingredients - What can it do for you? In the days to come I will focus on finding more articles that can assist you in achieving the hair your desire with basic items around the house. Stay posted!

Hair Obstacles - Rough Ends

I must say that my natural hair journey has not been too bad...BUT I personally have one hair obstacle that is soooooo annoying! ROUGH ENDS (RE) ! Does any one else have this problem? Please let me know.

I notice these ends when I straightened my hair and sometimes when I re-set my natural hairstyles. The ends are rough, dry and so different from the rest. Its mainly the back portion, but I feel as if it is spreading like a disease. I was a little discouraged when I straightened my hair and found these RE's AGAIN! They come back and back and back. Many people have given me their two cents  as to what I should do. These are the suggestions I have received so far:

  • Regular Trim(3-4mnths)
  • Moisturize
  • Deep conditioning
  • Protein Treatment
  • Dusting
  • Protective Styles
They all seem easy right? We shall see, the three that I need to do more often is Protein Treatment, Dusting of ends and Trims. You know I am bad on trim but NOW I am determined I will do a trim every 2 month so that I want go into shock when my length check comes up and I have to chop so much. As far as Protein Treatments I have NOT been doing them.  I know I know they are very important and for some reason I feel off. So when I washed my hair after the 3weeks straight I gave my hair a Protein Treatment. The goal is to apply Protein every other week. Dusting will be done whenever hopefully frequent so I can get this under control. This will help with my split ends that I definitely have especially in the back.

I really panicked when my RE came back I was SO discouraged. Thankfully I have talked to a lot of Natural Ladies out there who have assisted and encouraged me. I have also discovered that RE is quite common and that I should not worry about it too much. So I will put in to practice those 3 points that I have not been taking into account and simply worry about keeping my hair as healthy as possible.

Family Fun Night - Inspiration Board

Family Fun Night it is where all families come together to have fun. Families of all ages. Last time we held a family fun night we had different stations setup for games, arts and crafts, a talent show and TONES of food. This year Family Fun Night is going Around the World!

My vision is to create a market place and each country have their own "booth" as it were. We are not selling anything, each booth will offer activities, arts and crafts, games and food from each country. They will also teach greeting from their language and serve tastings of their food. All will be encouraged to dress up from another country and learn about that country. This should be exciting! Below is my inspiration board for this event in May!
