Hair Rules Kinky Curling Cream

Yesterday I walked into ULTA. It was my first time. I had to contain my excitement when I finally got to the back of the store where the hair products were. I just gasped WOW the products that I want to try are HERE! Yippee! So this is one of the new products that I have been wanting to try. We shall see how it goes.

Ulta at ShopStyle

Hair Obstacles - Humidity

Humidity seems to be a HUGE obstacles for Naturals. It basically means big puffy hair and frizz. The majority of the products that seem to work best are unnatural products, anti humectant hair products and serums. Many suggest that deep conditioning your hair with the right products will assist in limiting the reaction of humidity.

Here are some popular suggested products that may help:

Natural Hair products at Shoprite!

Saturday I ran in the store to my some snacks for a little party we were having. You know I had to run down the hair isle. To my surprise I did a BIG double take. WOW Natural hair products at Shoprite!!!! It seems like natural hair products are growing like WILD FIRE!!! I'm excited that they are becoming more popular and very accessible. I don't have to go out of my way to go to a particular store, I can go right around the corner now. What do you think about this?

Shea Moisture at WALGREENS

Walgreens is having a BOGO sale on Shea Moisture products from March 27th till April 2nd!

Product Swap Meet

A Swap Meet is an exchange of used items between two or more people. All participants are givers and receivers its the BEST! You have to give some to get some its perfect. I'm all ways giving products to the people who I think will like them but not until Tuesday did I do a little Product Swap. Was so excited. Since I have given away tones of things Miss Jessies, Cantu Shea Butter, Tresemme etc.... I did not have much that I don't like. I finally gave AND got! YIPPEEE!!! So here are the products that were swapped.

John Frieda - Frizz Ease Hair Serum

What its Supposed to do:
Prevents Future Frizz. Corrects moderate frizz for polished, smooth hair.  Daily use helps prevent future frizz. Infused with silk protein this formula polishes frizz-prone strands, delivering a layer of crystal-clear gloss for amazingly shiny, frizz-free results.  Daily use helps prevent frizz from worsening over time.  Repels humidity, leaving hair silky, glossy & incredibly manageable whether you style straight or curly.

Ingredients:
Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethiconol, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Mineral Oil (Paraffinum Liquidum), Hydrolyzed Silk, Fragrance (Parfum)

I received a sample of the Frizz Ease line (you guys know how much I LOVE FREE SAMPLES). I finally had a chance to use it when I straightened my hair for my length check in February. I only used the Hair Serum and only a nickle size amount of the product. I really liked it. My hair came out very well. The product lasted a long time, I had my hair straight for 3 weeks. Frizz was no problem. My hair was very polished, smooth and shiny, I attribute that to this product and the techniques I used. I will definitely use this product again.

    My Thoughts
So there has been a ridiculous amount of BUZZ about this product and honestly I don't see why. Yes its all most 100% natural and the price range is around $8.00 which is pretty good. But.... honestly I don't see or feel the difference of this conditioner from any other in the store. It's an... all right product. I would buy this instead of unnatural products, just because I want a whole line of natural products for my hair. BUT it's definitely NOT a LOVE of mine, its simply better ingredients wise to some of the conditioners I use at present.

    Unused Products - Hair Styling

Continue to use the product - Hair styling

In the previous Unused Product segment we talked about Solutions to this problem. One was continue using the product for hair styling. Last week I had a great example of this. You may remember my review on the above product Shea Moisture Curl and Hold Smoothie, I was thoroughly disappointed by this product. No Moisture, no hold, no definition on my wash and go, bantu knot and 2 strand twist bantu knot. My hair was dry dry dry. So last week I decided to give it a go again BUT with a different style, Twist out! Now you all know my Twist outs NEVER EVER EVER EVER come out right, so much so that I refuse to show you pictures of the results. Well can you believe it that this product works on this style for me!

As you can see my hair is DEFINED, BLACK, SHINY and Moisturized :)

From trying this product again and finally have success I have learned some additional things about using products that didn't work before for styling. I believe that the essential reason my hair retained moisture, shape, shine and body this time is because I applied a generous amount of Shea Butter and Olive Oil. Usually I apply a little amount like I usually do for other styles, but I believe for this product and for my hair it needed a stronger base of oil and butter before the smoothie was applied. Then I applied the smoothie and twisted my hair up. It was amazing to see the result since my twist outs never come out good. So the verdict for this Smoothie for a twist out is definitely thumbs up :D

to stock up on my hair supplies :)

Links to my Reviews on these product.
    Aussie Moist Conditioner
Organix Grapefruit and Mango Butter Shampoo

Let's start with the Bad news first:

Shea Moisture - Yes Shea Moisture... The product that I was most excited about, but it has failed me. My hair is DRY, NO SHINE, it looks DAMAGED! I tried this product 3 times to ensure that I applied it properly, for me this is trash. I would rate MJ better then this and I really thought that I would NEVER EVER EVER say that. Here's the Info on it:

      NEXT - MY LOVES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Curls Creme Brulee, before I tell you anything here's the info:

Defines, defrizzes and moisturizes your tresses leaving soft curls without hold. The Creme Brule is a moisturizing styling cream that will effectively penetrate the hair shaft, provide all day curl hydration, defrizz, and add shine to the hair. It has a level of moisturizing richness to it but it is not heavy or dense at all. Nor, does it have a light, very thin consistency to it either. Instead, it has the perfect smooth creamy consistency that is neither heavy nor overly light. And, if one's hair is extremely dry, this product is buildable in the hair.

Ingredients Aloe Leaf Juice, Sunflower Seed Oil, Soybean Oil, Organic Shea Butter, and Certified Organic Sweet Almond Oil.

This is the smoothest moisturizer that I have EVER tried. It really moisturizes my hair. As far as defining...my hair reacts to this creme but on a small scale, there would need to be more hold in the product for me. Honestly I am all  right with that, because it a great substitute for me leaving conditioner in when I do bantu knots, twist outs etc.. So now I can use my conditioner to wash and not leave it wondering on the effects to my hair. I have the Creme Brulee. OH we can't not mention how the smell is Y U M M Y! Also this product doesn't feel gunky on your hands or in your hair.

Giovanni - Deeper Moisturizer - Silk Moisture

Giovanni is something else, I should have been using this product a loooooooooooong time ago. I did my normal co-wash and detangle with V05 Moisture Milks. I used Giovanni with some Olive oil for a deep conditioner, sitting under the dryer for 1 hour. WOW is all I have to say. Detangling with this product was easy, the smell was very very very nice and my hair reacted well to this product. Here's the info:

      GIVE!!! GIVE!!! GIVE!!

Giving is Contagious! As I spoke about yesterday one of the ways for us to use up those unused unwanted product that are in our cabinet is to give them to someone who likes them. Today I received my second hair product from a co-worker. Its one of my new loves! Aussie Moist 3 Minute Miracle Deeeeep Conditioner! 2 BOTTLES!!! 2 Bottles people that's such a good gift! So I wont be using those coupons I found since I have 2 bottles FREE!

I figured I would share this news. I am still looking for a lover of MJ products or someone who has yet to try the line. When giving away product try to think of the best person to give them too. For example, be observant to how your potential recipient likes to style their hair, the texture of their hair and the products that they like to use. This will help you to know what products may work for your friends that simply wont work for you. Also give to these products to new naturals so they can experiment with what they do and don't like. You now how it is in the beginning of your journey, you just don't know where to start. This would help them out tremendously. Continue to think about that ways you can give to others  :)

      Unused Products

Ways  to use those product we just don't like...

When I was out of ALL MY PRODUCTS! It made me look long and hard at those products that I don't care for at all and haven't used. Basically the two containers of MJ (Curly Pudding and Curly Meringue). I know other people have to be having this same issue. So it got me thinking. What should we do with our unused products? I can think of two things:

      GIVE
No doubt you know someone with a different hair texture then yours. You  can ask them if they would like to use the product. Better yet, say you know someone who loves LOVE a certain product GIVE IT TO THEM! That way its off your hands and someone is enjoying it.

      Continue to use the product

      Recipes
Can you substitute this product in a Natural Hair Care recipe and have it work just as effective? There are numerous recipes online, substituting this product for another in a recipe may make it work for you. The key is substituting it for a product that is the same, a product that is supposed to perform in the same way.

      Hair Styling
Your probably saying "I don't like the product so why would I use it in styling?" Your right BUT your wrong. I would not recommend using the product you hate for a style where you it simply doesn't work. For example Twist out, wash and go etc... So use it on Twists that stay in, or braids that stay in, or an up do.

      Shopping for Products

Shopping time has arrived! I was out of ALL my products, I only had Shea butter, 1 bottle of V05 Conditioner, 1 Bottle of Aussie 3 Minute Deeeep Conditioner and a little bit of Herbal Essence No Frizz leave in conditioner. So while I was out with my Sissa on Saturday we stopped by Target. Let me just mention that every time I go I can NEVER find the curly / natural products that every one is always talking about. Well I FOUND THEM!!!!! I would have never found them if my sister wasn't with me because they aren't in the aisle they are on the end of the aisle so I always walk right past it. Any who, We found them. So these are the following products that I have found:

      ________________________________________

So for this shopping trip I am a new customer to some products I have never tried before and I am also a repeat customers to products I'm in LOVE with. My ultimate goal is for all my products to contain natural ingredients and (as you know) I must LOVE them. So we shall see how it goes. I will have reviews on the new products soon, my first one will be of Aussie Moist conditioner (hint: I brought it again).

      SAMPLES - Pantene Curl Series

I'm speechless from this product. Not in a good way...this is the reason I think FREE samples are wonderful because I would have been soooo angry if I would have payed for this. First this is what the Pantene Hair Series claims:

      What its supposed to go:

Want touchable curls with endless shine?
Show the beauty of your curls with NEW Pantene Pro-V Curly Hair Series. The twists and turns in curly hair can cause the cuticle to lift, exposing the internal structure of curls and leaving them rough and dry. Pantene Pro-V Curly Hair Series includes curly hair products designed to smooth cuticles, leaving curly hair protected from damage and frizz. Find options to smooth, moisturize and define for shiny, bouncy curls that last.So last night I finally tried Pantene Curl Shampoo and Conditioner

      __________________________________________________

My results were nothing to the claims of what this product is "supposed" to do. My hair did not respond at all maybe it has super powers that I simply can not see? I really don't know where to start. The shampoo was very stripping. The only good side would be that you don't need very much of it since it lathers very well. Seeing that I only have the sample size of 1.7 Fl Oz and I used too much...that's a good thing. Though I will not buy this. The conditioner is a...conditioner...just a ordinary conditioner to me. Nothing spectacular. I really don't have anything to say about it other then I'm disappointed and so glad I didn't pay for it.

The ironic this is when I went to the Pantene website and looked at the reviews, WOW! They have a lot of unhappy customers since they changed their "formula".

Jojoba Oil - What can it do for you?

Jojoba oil is one of the more common ingredients in hair care products and with good reason. This natural oil is considered by many to be the most compatible due to its similarity to the scalp’s sebum and its ability to work with all hair types. It has many therapeutic properties including its ability to protect moisture loss, protect hair health and improve the condition of damaged hair.

Jojoba oil is derived from the seeds of a perennial shrub that is found in northwestern Mexico and the southwestern United States. Although it is commonly known as oil, the extract from the jojoba is technically a liquid wax. It is golden in appearance and has a slight nutty odor plus it is hypoallergenic, non-irritating and non-comedogenic. It also contains vitamin E and has antibacterial and antioxidant properties as well.

Generally easy to find, jojoba oil can be purchased in many health food stores and is also commonly available online through a number of different retailers. Let’s look at some of the many uses for jojoba oil and how it can benefit you.

      Eye Makeup Remover
Jojoba oil is a great way to remove eye makeup and condition your lashes at the same time. Soak a cotton ball or pad in the oil and wipe it over your eye shadow, liner and mascara. This is remove your eye makeup easily and gently without any fear of irritation.

      Cleansing Oil
In addition to removing eye makeup you can also use jojoba oil to remove blush, foundation and lipstick. Simply soak a pad or cotton ball in the oil and wipe them away. Remove the oil completely by wiping after with a damp tissue or washcloth.

      Facial Moisturizer
Our skin readily accepts jojoba oil with any threat of breakout or reaction due to its similarities to human sebum. Even if you have oily or combination skin you can feel assured that you will not have any worries because jojoba oil will help to balance the skin’s sebum by moisturizing dry skin and easing oil production in oily skin. You can apply it either by mixing it with your own moisturizer or by sparingly apply it on its own.
      Lip Conditioner
If wind and sun have your lips dry and chapped then the solution for you is jojoba oil. A small amount of this applied to your lips is a perfect replacement for chapstick and lip balms that are costly and short lived.

      Cuticle Oil
Constant use of your hands can result in dry, worn cuticles that look and feel ugly. Condition them and keep them soft by rubbing a small amount of jojoba oil into them on a regular basis. Your cuticles will never look better.
      Hair Conditioner
Adding jojoba oil to your hair routine is a simple process that will provide numerous rewards. Just mix a few drops into your favorite conditioner and apply as usual. When you rinse it out the beneficial properties of the oil will be retained in the hair. You can also put a few drops on your palm and work it through the ends of your hair prior to blow drying for added conditioning. If you hair is looky frizzy or dull then the addition of a small amount of jojoba oil will smooth out the cuticle and make your hair shiny and healthy looking. It has also been said that by massaging some jojoba oil into the scalp that you will promote thick, lustrous hair.

Body OilJojoba oil can be used in a number of different easy to keep your skin hydrated and feeling smooth. Add a few drops to your favorite body lotion, moisturizer or oil and massage it in for a great, non-greasy feel. Hydrate your skin by rubbing it all over your body after you have bathed or showered, the open pores absorb it quickly and leave your skin feeling great. Another great use is to rub it into your legs prior to shaving. This will help to give you a closer, smoother shave and great looking legs that will be noticed.
We have looked at a number of the different uses for jojoba oil and there are many more we have not even touched upon. You also can find it as an additive to many hair and skin care products and can get the same results through their uses. A small amount of jojoba oil used once or twice a week will provide amazing results that will make your friend envious and have them wondering what your secret is.

      Jazzy Headbands

Finding or making a unique headband is a great way to stand out and add a little something to your look. You don't have to go out and buy expensive headbands. Just to jog your memory I was able to find a cute headband I saw online for $1.00, no lie (Go to the link to see)! The ones I have selected below are less than $10.00. Also don't forget to use your creativity you can make some of the headbands you see in the store for much less then they cost. There is all ways a way to find or make what you want.

Headbands are also great for jazzing up your protective styles for the winter. When you have a bun, pony tail, up do, puff etc...just place one of these headbands on and your good to go. Flowers, butterfly's many accessories can help you with the look that you are trying to achieve.

Olive Oil - What can it do for you?

Olive oil is wonderful for dry hair (which would include curly hair). A small amount can effectively  smooth and de-frizz hair. There is no buildup with olive oil like in grease. Olive Oil does not weigh down your hair when you use the right amount.

Extra virgin olive oil can help the growth for your hair due to the rich in high levels of mono-unsaturated fatty acids and Vitamin E. If you didn't know Vitamin E is an antioxidant that is great for hair growth.  We want hair growth! Not only hair growth it helps you retain your growth because both of these ingredients are great for protecting, nourishing, and moisturizing. If your able to protect, nourish and moisturize your hair on a regular basis that's some beautiful healthy hair.

Now that you know the benefits now you need to know how to use it. For some reason a lot of people have the misconception that you cant use "regular" olive oil on your hair, that you have to go to the hair store and buy the "brand" or a product containing olive oil. Go right to your grocery store and buy some olive oil right off the shelf for your hair, our better yet in your cabinet at home. I guarantee this will be cheaper, last longer and many more benefits.

I suggest extra virgin olive oil because the scent is not has heavy, in addition to the great benefits. You don't want to be walking around smelling like olive oil. All ways remember that a little olive oil goes a long way.

You can use it to seal your ends, daily moisturizer (but not too much) and of course a deep conditioner. Many of you know this last one for the simply fact for the longest time we have been going to the beauty supply store buying those little hot oil treatments of olive oil. So don't run out to the store run to your cabinet! Snatch your bottle out and pour 3-5 cap fulls of olive oil into a cup, heat it up in the microwave and you know the rest. Your hair and your pocket will LOVE YOU!

Aussie Moist 3 Minute Miracle Deep Conditioner

I have been having some technically difficulties with my computer and camera. So I should be posting more often very soon. Sorry for the delay! Let's get back to the review...

WOW!!!! I tried Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Moist deeeep conditioner on last Saturday. WOW!!!! I am in LOVE!!!! My hair was so ...........silky moisturized. I thought it was funny that on the label it literally says deeeep conditioner and not deep.  This is the BEST DEEP CONDITIONER THAT I HAVE EVER TRIED!!!! It is only $3 and some change! Its a cool squeeze bottle, which honestly at first I didn't think I was going to like. But it was so easy to use when applying the conditioner. This conditioner is thick and creamy. When I washed it out my hair felt like butter :) I will definitely continue to buy this product. I will say also that I co-washed with the Aussie Moist Conditioner before applying this deep conditioner (I like that too) but I will do a separate review on the regular conditioner because I have pictures to share. So all in all I'm in love with this deep conditioner and will apply it every other week.

How its supposed to work: Deeply intense conditioning, accented with Australian aloe, penetrates dry or damaged hair. Radiant hair in one use. Sure, it's really deep and super intense. But moist 3 minute miracle, accented with natural Australian aloe and jojoba oil, has a playful side too. Like that time it ran backwards around the office in a kangaroo outfit. Add some roo to your do

Ingredients: Water, Stearyl Alcohol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Dimethicone, Glutamic Acid, Fragrance, Benzyl Alcohol, EDTA, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Ecklonia Radiata Extract (Australian Sea Kelp Extract), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil.
