Soiree Jewelry - Shrink Dink

While flipping through Country Living magazine I saw this cool arts and crafts project. Shrinky Dink jewelry! I thought the idea was genius, you can make any type of jewelry you want earrings, necklace, bracelet, key chain, book embellishments...etc... ANY THING! I love the creative freedom and inspiration it invokes. So I decided this would be a great addition to the Soiree Brunch. So all my Orchids made their own personalized Soiree Jewelry. It was PERFECT! I went to Michael crafts store and picked up on pack of Inkjet sheets and a pack of plain. I selected pictures from past Soiree's, phrases, cute patterns and designs and printed them.

My Reggie & Products

So for this Regimen post I will tell you what I do and show you the products that I use. I only use the products that I LOVE! My regimen...varies depending on the products I use, if they are all natural, product buildup and the style I am rocking.

Shampoo - Once a week or every other (depends how much build up or unnatural products are in my hair)

I have 2 Shampoo's that I can't live without. Both do not strip my hair. Organix;s is a thick lucious shampoo so I dilute it. It smells divine! Deva Curl makes my scalp tingles, it feels so clean and refreshed. When shampooing or co-washing, I always make sure that any shedding is removed every time I pass my hands or comb through my hair. I don't want those hairs to get create tangles or knots.

Conditioner - (varies, every wk, every 3days, all depends)
As you can see I have a nice variety of conditioners that I LOVE!

Once my hair is clean, I load my hair up with conditioner and divide it into 4/6 sections and detangle and clip my hair up. Once again through this whole process I am always removing shed hair from my comb and my hands. The conditioners that I use the most hands down are Aussie, Burts Bees and Giovanni.
Deep Condition (Once a Week) / Protein Treatment (every other week)
Usually I let these sit in my head for a minimum of 30mins, but I love for them to linger for at least an hour. As for the Protein Treatment I do use products in the home like eggs, mayo, honey. I cover my hair with a cap/trash bag (whatever you use) then I wrap it with a towel for extra heat. Sometimes I sit under a hooded bonnet but most of the time I don't. For deep conditioning I also use the conditioners above for deep conditioning as well, or use olive oil.

Leave In (after wash/co-wash)  Styling (every week / ever 2 or 3 days)

I still am using the Kimmay Tube Leave In Recipe with Knot Today, as my leave in and detangler.
Shea butter is not displayed but its a huge part of my regimen, cant live with out it.

Oils (use when styling and after leave in applied) Also use Olive Oil.

I also have a water oil mix in my spray bottle for when I re-wet my hair for styling.

I think that is about it... if not ask me

Afternoon Ladies,

So let's chat! I have some wonderful news for everyone, so let's get to it!

The LookBook will be updated. I promise! So many things have been going on that I have not had the time to shoot my hair step by step.  I will post a braiding tutorial step by step, how I wear my hair when its straight and more natural styles.

We have added a new addition to the Writer list, you have to wait and see who it is! Make sure to give her a warm welcome. I think it's important for use to have a wide range of curly hair patterns and textures here at FNthat'sNF. So she will be sharing her experience with trying new products. You will love her!

This years Soiree has a limited amount of photo's, sorry! It was a very nice intimate gathering, so the layout of the room, decorations etc...were not photographed to my liking. So I will share as much as I can about the experience with you.

So I will be sharing the activities, little touches, the invitation, flowers etc. So stay tuned

Whats up with me? Well I will be letting you know. I have never really shared my regimen with you guys, I'm not a big regimen type of person. So I will try my best to share my routine. Snap Shots of life, adventures and travels, results from products. Hair    do's that will tie into the LookBook.

Let's Talk Length Check

So on September 2nd I went to this amazing salon called "Bliss Elements" it is a Green Salon located in Wilmington DE and they are fabulous! They colored, trimmed and straighten my hair. I felt very at home, they are very professional and friendly.

These pictures are taken after 2 and half weeks of getting it done. I meant to take pictures fresh out the salon but you know how life is. Nonetheless you can see the color change and drastic length increase. As you can see once again my hair is thicker and longer then last time.

After about a week or so I mainly wore my hair in protective styles. I also continued to style my hair in its natural styles since I did not want to apply any more heat to my hair. So I did twist outs and braid outs. They came out super cute. I was  very happy with my experience at the salon, I researched many salons to make sure if they were right for me and visited the ones I liked. I know many of use "Natural Girls" are scared to go to the salons but if you do you research and make sure they understand what you want, it will go just fine :)

I am Thankful For...

Silverbox Creative has a cute template for printable "I am Thankful for..." slips. When I saw them I thought they were adorable, they were used as napkin holders. I loved the idea but wasn't sure how I was going to use them. Finally I decided I would send an "I am Thankful for..." slip in each  Soiree Invitation. Since each person invited was bringing someone they loved they wrote on these slips why they are Thankful the person they brought with them.

Hair Obstacles - Some Advice on Accepting Advice

It's interesting to me that many so people are so eager to give their opinion on natural hair or anything else for that matter. Especially when your a Newbie you want to learn all you can about natural hair. It really does take time, effort and a whole lot of patience.

Let me tell you though, you cant listen to everybody. When Naturals get together there is bound to be a discussion about natural hair, and everybody wants to express them self. Usual the newbie/transitioner is cornered in some way and a ridiculous amount of information is dumped on them in less then 5 minutes. Let me put it this way don't take advice from people who don't know how to do their hair! I say this because its ironic to me that the people who can't maintain or style their natural hair properly are the ones giving advice.

Let me break it down for you:

1. Be realistic - Growth takes time, maintaining and caring for hair takes patience. All so remember that each curly is different and our hair will react differently to products and styles. So even though you may follow someone recipe and instructions to the T, it may not come out the same way. Practice makes perfect and you really have to find what works for YOU.

2. Observe carefully - Look at who is giving the advice and if they truly can help you. If their hair is in braids, or weave majority of the time, how are they going to help you maintain your natural hair in its natural state if they never have their hair in that state? If you notice their hair is dry and not cute, why use the same products or techniques?

3. Don't feel pressured - Many times Naturals are a little pushy. I think this is because we are so passionate about our hair and all we have learned. So sometimes we say BUY this, TRY this, oh this will be the BEST for YOU, and we don't know the hair of the Natural we are speaking to.

4. Talk to the True Curly - When I say true curly I mean someone who has success with styling, growing and maintaining their natural hair in its natural state. Someone who has a head of hair you admire.

5. Listen to YOUR HAIR - Use what works for YOU not what works for someone else. Many people are very pushy with their products, and try to influence you to buy this or that.. If something is working for you KEEP using it. If you are searching for products, try samples. They are cheap, some are free, this is an expensive way to test a product. If you can't find samples ask the True Curly and or Pushy Curly to let you borrow their product so you can test it out. Or see if they have any products they are not using that they can give you to try. Product Swaps and Samples are the best!!!

Hair Obstacles - Humidity

Humidity seems to be a HUGE obstacles for Naturals. It basically means big puffy hair and frizz. The majority of the products that seem to work best are unnatural products, anti humectant hair products and serums. Many suggest that deep conditioning your hair with the right products will assist in limiting the reaction of humidity.

Here are some popular suggested products that may help:
